Measurement
Google Ads Call Tracking: From Phone Clicks to Booked Jobs
A tap on a phone number does not prove that a call connected. A connected call does not prove that the caller was a suitable customer. To understand Google Ads for a local trade, measure the enquiry and its business outcome as separate steps.

The key decision
Keep a clear record of the journey: contact attempt, connected enquiry, qualified lead and booked work. Optimise toward a meaningful outcome.
Choose the call measurement method
Google's website call conversion tracking can use a forwarding number to attribute calls following an ad visit, where the feature is available. It can count a conversion after the call exceeds a minimum duration you set. Setup needs appropriate website access and a supported country.
A third-party call platform may offer another route, depending on your needs and integrations. Whichever method you use, verify the public number, forwarding destination, mobile link and after-hours handling. A tag that fires is not sufficient proof that a customer reaches the correct business.

Test the whole enquiry path
Use the platform's supported testing procedure and label test enquiries clearly. Confirm what happens from the page through the phone system and into the inbox or CRM. Check both a successful form submission and a rejected or failed one.
Form conversions should correspond to confirmed submissions, not simply a button press. Protect against duplicate reporting when a person refreshes a confirmation page or when browser and server integrations report the same event. The correct implementation depends on the systems involved; use their supported identifiers and deduplication method.
Record outcomes the ad platform cannot infer
A long call might be a supplier, a complaint or an enquiry from an unserved area. Ask whoever answers to record a small set of outcomes consistently: qualified, wrong service, wrong area, spam, unreachable, booked or lost. Add a booking value only when the business has evidence for it.
A small operation can begin with a protected lead log. Record source, date, service, area, owner, status and next action. Keep customer details out of public reports and restrict access. The aim is a usable routine that staff will maintain, not a complicated system nobody updates.
Connect qualified and converted leads when ready
Google distinguishes qualified leads and converted leads for outcomes established outside the ad platform. A supported offline import or CRM integration can feed those outcomes back when identifiers, consent requirements and the integration are correctly handled.
Choose one clear business definition for each imported stage. Do not upload every stage as if it were an additional sale, and do not assign fabricated revenue. Reconcile the imported records with the CRM before using them to guide budget decisions.

Read performance with the right denominator
Divide ad spend by qualified enquiries to calculate cost per qualified enquiry, and by booked jobs for cost per booking. Use the same cohort and allow time for leads to close. Comparing this week's spend with bookings from last month's leads can distort the result.
If the platform shows many conversions but the business reports little useful work, investigate event definitions, duplicates and intake outcomes before changing creative. Advertux's fit check can identify measurement gaps before a launch; its campaign review uses calls and forms as evidence rather than treating every click as a customer.
