Google Ads for HVAC: Separate Repairs from Replacements

An HVAC customer looking for an urgent repair is making a different decision from someone comparing replacement systems. Putting both into the same generic message can hide what the campaign is really buying. Start by separating the customer's need and the business's capacity to meet it.

The key decision

Give repair, replacement and maintenance enquiries a clear path, then compare their booked-job economics separately.

Define three distinct buying situations

Repair intent is often immediate: the system is not heating or cooling, and the customer wants to know who can attend. Replacement intent may involve an assessment, multiple estimates and a longer decision. Maintenance is usually planned and needs a clear explanation of what a visit includes.

Build service groups around those situations rather than putting every furnace, heat pump and air-conditioning keyword into one ad group. You do not necessarily need three campaigns on a small budget. Separate campaigns when you need independent spend control; use focused ad groups where a shared budget makes sense.

  • Repair: coverage, appointment availability and diagnostic process.
  • Replacement: systems offered, assessment steps and estimate expectations.
  • Maintenance: included checks, scope and booking conditions.

Choose the first test using margin and capacity

A high invoice value does not automatically make replacement the best starting point. Consider materials, installation labour, estimate time and the percentage of proposals that become jobs. A company with open service slots and a busy installation team may prefer repair enquiries for the current week.

Choose one priority and agree on the outcome you want to count. An estimate request is not an installed system. Keep that distinction in your reports so a campaign with many enquiries does not appear to have produced revenue it has not earned.

Plan for demand and operational changes

Use your own call history and local demand research to identify the services likely to matter in the coming period. Do not copy another region's seasonal calendar: weather, housing and equipment vary. A Toronto heating campaign and a cooling campaign in a different climate need different timing.

Document when budgets or schedules should be reviewed, who can approve changes and how the team reports full capacity. If dispatch cannot accept new work, adjust the advertising promptly. An increase in enquiries is useful only when the business can respond and deliver.

Make the page specific to the enquiry

A repair page should explain the types of systems serviced, area covered and how appointments are arranged. A replacement page should explain the assessment and estimate process, the equipment categories available and who performs the installation. Use actual project photographs where you have permission.

Avoid unsupported efficiency savings, guaranteed approval for financing or rebate promises. If a programme is relevant, verify its current eligibility and state the conditions. The ad should not imply every household qualifies. This guide deliberately does not quote rebate amounts because they depend on location and programme rules.

Filter irrelevant intent without blocking customers

Research service-led searches and inspect the queries the campaign receives. Training courses, technician vacancies and wholesale equipment searches may need exclusions if the company does not provide those services. Queries about a particular brand may be relevant only if you service that equipment.

Google's positive match types can include searches related by meaning or intent. Exact match is therefore not a guarantee of an identical typed phrase. Review search terms alongside lead outcomes, and use carefully scoped negatives to control irrelevant traffic.

Track the journey through the estimate

For repair, record qualified calls, booked visits and completed work. For replacement, include assessment booked, proposal sent and sale closed. Record the reason when a lead is unsuitable: wrong location, unsupported equipment, unavailable appointment or another issue.

Compare campaign cost with completed outcomes after allowing for the sales cycle. A replacement lead may close after the initial review window. Advertux can build the initial campaign and measurement plan around the services you want to sell, with the live review starting when the campaign is funded, measurable and running.
